What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding to spend on improving the quality of sport, PE and physical activity for all their children. In 2016-2017 we received £8,328.

Purpose of funding

Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport as well as increasing the amount of physical activities undertaken by the children, but we have the freedom to choose how we do this.

For 2016-2017 we spent the Sports funding as follows:

Using monies retained from the previous year’s Sports Funding and all of this year’s allocation, together with a grant from the Walter Farthing Trust we have had an all-weather running surface installed at a cost of £12,650.

The running surface is used by all children daily during lesson times to increase their levels of fitness and activity.  Our evidence demonstrates that children who could barely run one lap in September 2016 are now running ½ a mile a day. Children who previously would not engage with physical activity are now joining in happily. It has also impacted on their concentration and resilience in class. This is now a sustainable legacy forth future.

The track is also used by children at break times, both in an informal capacity and through a range of clubs such as skipping, running and fitness, which are run by Sports leaders from year 6 and target specific children in order to enhance their levels of physical activity.

Please see below for an infographic giving the impact of our sports premium up until July 2017.

Following the success of the PE and sports coaching delivered over the previous three years; our teachers are now delivering their own PE lessons. We have, however, retained the services of Premier Sport to deliver after school clubs.
