                Profile

My primary education was not a success; at nine years old I was two and a half years backward. I was a SEN case, though my parents were unaware of it. When they found out they gave me lots of support. I caught up and went on to earn two degrees and six other qualifications; SEN children can make good with parental support! I worked in engineering and then in management consultancy. This gave me broad experience and I have worked with many small businesses of similar size to the school. I also had a spell in education when I was seconded for eight months as acting director of a Montessori teacher training college.

More recently I spent a lot of time as a carer to my father when he developed Alzheimer’s disease. After he died I retired early to concentrate on community activities. About eight years ago I became a voluntary assistant in Class 2 for half a day per week. Later, I was invited to be a governor. I was first made Chair of the Finance Committee and has served as Chair of Governors.

                    Mr. Tim Pass

                    Co-opted

                    Profile

As a Co-opted governor of Ford End Primary School.

I passionately believe that a small school like Ford End Primary can fulfil a vital role for not only the children and staff, but also for the community it sits in.

The farming family that I have married into has been in the area for several hundred years, so I understand some of the interactions between the agricultural and village communities. This would be valuable to provide a different view of the role of the school in the community.

My childhood was surrounded by education, my father being the chief education officer in a local authority for some thirty years until he retired. After receiving a civil and structural engineering degree I ended up working in IT for my entire career. For the last 14 years I have been an independent consultant so have expertise in many disciplines, working individually and in multi-disciplined teams. Working for myself I can readily find the time required to be an active governor at the school.

I enjoy the opportunity to use my experience to further develop the standards of education and achievement at Ford End School and be involved in helping to plan its future.

                                Mrs. Ann McDevitt

                                Co-opted

                                Profile

I am now retired following a working life spent mainly in education. I have worked in both secondary and primary schools in various roles from class teacher to Headteacher before becoming a County Advisory Teacher. Later, I became an Independent Consultant for IT and Special Needs to a number of Local Authorities across the South East and nationally for Becta, the government educational technology agency, maintaining contact with this world as moderator of a professional email group for the DfE. I have lived at North End for many years and am now one of the editors of the Great Waltham Parish News. I was honoured to be asked to become a governor of Ford End School and hope to use my experience to assist the school in their future development.

                                    Mrs. Linda Neilson

                                    Foundation

                                    Profile

I have lived in Ford End since 1986 and became a governor at the school in 2010. I started as a Local Authority governor and have recently become a Foundation Governor.

Previously, I worked for a large multi-national IT company for 39 years where I held various management and leadership roles, so I hope to be able to use this experience for the benefit of the school. I was also a governor for 12 years at a secondary school in Chelmsford.

Since retirement, I have lots of other interests –  I enjoy choral singing, cooking, swimming, being in the great outdoors, watching sport and learning golf! Together with my husband, we have been actively involved in local community and church activities over the years. We have a grown up son and daughter.

I have a passion for ‘learning for life’ and know it is key to provide the foundation in those important early years. I am proud to be associated with this great small school and enjoy giving my time and experience to help it to continue to thrive and successfully meet the challenges ahead.
