Foundation / Reception Pupils

Admissions to our school are co-ordinated by Essex County Council Planning and Admissions department. Each year we admit 10 pupils into Reception. Full details are published in the Primary Education in Essex booklet. Our admissions process is handled directly by Essex County Council (ECC) Planning & Admissions (telephone 0845 6032200). Full details of our admissions criteria, catchment, Ofsted reports and statistical data can be found on their website:

We welcome parent visits and to arrange an appointment please telephone the school office. If you do not live in the catchment area, please do not be discouraged from applying as we currently have many children on roll who live outside the catchment area.

If your child is already of school age and you are moving from outside the area you will need to complete a “mid year” application form and submit this to Essex County Council Planning & Admissions year – this can be found on their website:

Age on Entry

At Ford End C of E Primary School we admit children in the school year in which they reach the age of 5. All children may start in September however later start dates can be arranged. All children start school part-time for the first ten days – the first week they attend until 12 noon, the second week they all stay at school for lunch. After this they stay at school full-time. Your child may need a longer transition period than this and we will consider each child’s individual needs during the 10-day induction period.

The Home-School Agreement

The home school agreement is a Government initiative to clarify the working relationship between home, the school and the pupil. There is an expectation that the agreement is signed when joining our school.

Ofsted

Parent View - Your Child's SchoolOfsted is always interested in the opinion of parents about schools, particularly during an inspection. The school gets little notice of this, so it is good practice to regularly update your views in the survey via the Parent View link below. Feel free to update it annually or whenever you feel it necessary. Thank you.

Parent Involvement

We encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s education and to participate fully in the life of Ford End School.

All parents are automatically members of Friends of Ford End School (our PTA) and are welcome to attend PTA meetings. These are both an opportunity to get to know other parents and an opportunity to have your say on future PTA organised events. The PTA raises money for the school as well as organising events which are fun for the children and some to encourage parents to get to know each other in a social context. Meetings are advertised in the Newsletter. If you can help in any way we would be most grateful.

Once every term we hold a Parent Forum. This is an opportunity for parents, staff and governors to meet and discuss relevant issues. Dates are advertised in the newsletter. Newsletters are usually published fortnightly on Fridays.

We hold an achievement assembly on Fridays at 2pm. Parents are warmly invited to attend, celebrate the children’s achievements and find out what has been going on in school that week.

We welcome parents who wish to help out in school on a regular or ad hoc basis. We are always looking for parents to hear readers. We also ask for volunteers to help out with trips, art activities and music or sports events. Because of our small size we also rely on parents to give lifts to make many events out of school viable. If you would like to help in any way, please speak to Mrs Arnill or the class teacher.

Help is also required for the Handy Hands club which is run by parents for the children once a month. Handy Hands covers a range of craft, cookery and gardening activities and the parents are always looking for more help.  Please speak to Sandra Brown to become involved.

Golden Time

Golden Work

Poppies

Poppies

Each Friday the children have half an hour of Golden Time. This is to reward the good behaviour they have demonstrated during the previous week. This is an opportunity for children to select from a menu of activities offered by teachers and parents and to mix across classes.

We welcome the input of parents who could run or help run an activity for any number of children. Parents have previously been involved in cooking, jewellery making, art and needlework amongst others. Anyone who has a talent or interest in any area they would like to share with the children is most welcome to come along. Please speak to one of the teachers about this.
